McCain is a perspicacious person. But, it seems now that he is not surrounded by very sharp-witty people. They keep making unwarranted and unhealthy political comments.
First, it was one of his aids who stated that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil would be a “big advantage” for the Republican presidential candidate. This was a very distressful comment. It closely resembled past Bush tactics. These tactics were used to scare Americans and force them to believe in Bush and follow his political agendas. Furthermore, this statement solidified Obama’s previous statements on the scary tactics employed by Republicans.
The most recent comment came from another close person to McCain. Phil Gramm, one of McCain’s top advisers, called America “a nation of whiners.” This was not a very wise comment. It was unwise because the economy is in real trouble and people have real reasons to whine. US citizens can’t pay their mortgages, and can’t buy affordable gas or affordable food. Therefore, Mr. Gramm’s comments are worrisome to say the least.
The Obama’s campaign has its share of unwise comments. Nevertheless, those comments have come from outsiders who main priorities were attracting attention to themselves. The closest person to the Obama’s campaign to make an unwise comment was his wife Michelle Obama. She said that for the first time she was proud to be an American. This comment was taken very seriously by news outlets. However, it was a comment that John McCain has in previous occasions made himself.
McCain’s strategists should be very careful with what they say. They should avoid falling into the same hole dug by the Clintons. It could end up costing McCain the election.
