- Deploy an Effective Missile Defense to protect the US against current and future adversaries.
- Increase the Size of the American Military by giving better compensation, training and equipments to our troops and reconfiguring the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.
- Modernize the Armed Services by giving them advanced weapons systems that will help rapidly and decisively defeat any adversary and protect American lives. Furthermore, the next president must understand that this is a new kind of war where the men and women of the U.S. armed forces will be engaged in counter insurgency, counter terrorism, missile defense, counter proliferation and information warfare.
Other key actions to take into account are smart defense spending, better care of the military personnel and their families and to better honor the nation’s commitments to veterans and military retirees.
In conclusion, John McCain implies through his national security plan that he best understands the national security and the threats America is facing today. He recognizes the dangers posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, violent Islamist extremists and their terrorist tactics and the ever present threat of regional conflict that can spill into broader wars that endanger allies and destabilize areas of the world vital to America security. Moreover, he knows that to protect the homeland, America’s interests, and values and keep the peace, America must have the best manned, best equipped, and best supported military in the world.
